Last night my car over heated and quit around lap 15 . I was running a 50 % open radiator which was more than needed to keep it safe. I went back and watched the replay and observed that the only place it was smoking was on the front straight, no where else. If anyone can offer an explanation of what caused this I would be much appreciative.
I will add that as soon as I saw the car smoking 2nd or third lap I began short shifting and running the car more easily. It did not change the smoke on the front straight.
Thanks

I had to run 60 and that was on the edge. The air temp was very high.

Using the smoke as a sign of overheating is not a good idea. The published specs for the engine say:

- Optimal oil temp: 107 C
- Max safe oil temp: 114 C

You should try to keep your oil temp at 114 or lower. Also, once you start going above 120C the engine starts wearing very quickly.

The air temperature in Budapest was 39C so this demanded a relatively high radiator duct. In my case, I ran 70% and had the oil at around 108C on average.
