Cory Mackey has come out of Barcelona with another victory, this time at the expense of a part failure from team Renault. Ezequiel Montero started on Pole Position for the fourth time this season and led the initial 51 laps of the race until his front brakes gave away costing him an all but certain victory. Mackey had to come back from 10th place after being struck with a technical glitch in between qualifying sessions which forced him to not take part during Q2. Despite being slightly off the pace compared to Montero, the Ferrari driver managed to stay close enough to the Argentinian and was also able to build up a comfortable gap to second place Richard Walcott who was finally able to obtain a good result after the heartbreak from two weeks ago in Baku. The podium was rounded-off by the Toro Rosso driver Keyter Bautista after performing a controversial move on Sean Higgins early in the race which almost cost him 3rd place after the stewards handed him a 10-second penalty. This race marked the return to the tracks for Argenis Riera in the SRH F1 car number 43. Unfortunately for the 2016 champion, his race was cut short after an accident midway through the race.
