Cory Mackey has secured his first victory of the season by crushing the opposition leading all 51 laps of the SRHF1 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver has now taken the lead of the Drivers Championship by 8 points over Ezequiel Montero who was struck with an electronics issue and was forced to retire on lap 20. Mackey's teammate, Ivan Georgiev, managed a second place finish giving team Ferrari its first 1-2 and with that extending their lead over Renault by 54 points. The last step on the podium went to Ben Bowcott after making it to the finish line with brake issues that spoiled a potential second-place finish after Georgiev's brake failed as well with only a few laps to go. It was also a good race for team Haas having both of their drivers scoring points, Higgins in 4th and Michaels in 8th. Adam Freitas made his debut this season substituting Otto Acosta in Williams, he managed a respectable 5th place finish. Will this great result from Freitas put pressure on Acosta? We'll see in the next races to come. Further down the points, Cook finished in 6th and Hunter in 7th, both veterans taking advantage of all the others' mistakes. Fisher and Walcott secured the last points despite not finishing the race, both of them out with brakes failures with Walcott shocking the audience after what it looked like a second place finish in the bag right before his right-front brake send him towards the guardrail and ending his race.
