Ivan Georgiev scored his 3rd victory of the season and 11th podium finish with that. The Canadian-Macedonian has now extended his championship lead ahead of teammate Cory Mackey by 43 points going into the Italian Grand Prix next week.
The final 2 laps gave us a thrilling battle for the lead when Benny Fascelli (Red Bull) found himself up front with a chance of a maiden victory, however, Georgiev managed to pull a pass on lap 43 and claim the lead. Then on the last lap, a final corner mistake from Fascelli saw him spinning and dropping from 2nd to 4th.
Unofficial results put Ferrari with a 1-2 finish, however, after the stewards reviewed a few race incidents, they determined that Cory Mackey performed a blocking maneuver impending Argenis Riera and later on also breached the regulations when the Ferrari driver did a brake-check on Riera causing an accident. For that, he was handed a total of 10 seconds added to his final race time demoting him from 2nd to 4th. This meant that Acosta would finish in 2nd and Fascelli get a well-deserved podium in 3rd.
We now move to the fastest circuit of the calendar, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza next week for the SRHF1 2019 Italian Grand Prix. Will we continue seeing these amazing battles for the lead? Stay tuned next Thursday!
